23:41 → 06:52 · no gaps
A snore recorder that keeps the whole night
Put your phone face down by the bed and go to sleep. In the morning Nightjar shows when you snored and how loud it got, and plays back every snore, so you can hear what your partner hears.
No account. No ads. The recordings stay on your phone.

Nightjar records snoring sounds. It can't diagnose anything. If you gasp or stop breathing in your sleep, or feel very tired by day, talk to a doctor.
Screen off, face down, all night
Start it at bedtime and put the phone face down within arm's reach. The screen goes off and Nightjar keeps listening until you stop it in the morning. At night its screen is dim red on black, so it barely lights the room.
- A start delayThe microphone opens when the delay ends, so you can fall asleep first: now, or in 10, 20, 30 or 45 minutes. 20 is the default.
- It comes back if Android closes itThe recorder runs in its own small process. If Android closes it in the night, it starts again by itself when Android allows it, and the morning says when that happened.
- It stops itself after 14 hoursForget to stop it and the night ends on its own, with everything up to then kept.

Hearing: a quiet room
If a night has a gap, the morning says so
The worst thing a snore recorder can do is show an empty graph in the morning. Nightjar's morning opens with the proof: when it started, when it stopped, and “no gaps”, or each gap with its time and its cause.
Some phones close apps overnight to save battery. If Android is limiting Nightjar, bedtime tells you before you start, with a button that opens the battery settings.
23:41 → 06:52 · 7 h 09 min heard
Recording stopped at 03:12 and resumed at 03:14.
Android closed Nightjar to free memory; it started again by itself. Nothing was heard for those 2 minutes.
Less likely next time: let Nightjar run unrestricted. Open battery settings
Hear it for yourself
A number you can't check is a number you can't trust. Every snoring episode sits on a timeline of the night, drawn true to time, and every one plays back.
- Play the loudestOne tap plays the loudest snore of the night, and every episode in the log plays too, at 1×, 1.5× or 2×. Loudness is quiet, medium or loud, measured against your own room rather than in decibels, because a phone microphone isn't calibrated.
- Not snoring?A fan, the cat, traffic, your partner turning over: mark any episode as not snoring and it leaves the snoring time and the score. It stays in the log, so you can undo it.
- Detection on the phoneEach second is checked on the phone by YAMNet, an open sound-recognition model, for its snoring class. Nothing is sent anywhere to be analysed.
- Other night sounds stay on the recordingSounds that stand out from the room, like sleep talk or a cough, are kept and shown as other sounds on the strip. Nightjar doesn't name them; you hear them on playback, and you can leave a note on the strip with a long press.
Try one thing tonight, see if it worked
At bedtime, tap what you're trying: side sleeping, a mouth guard, nasal strips, no alcohol, a new pillow, or one of your own. After a few nights Nightjar compares the nights with it against the nights when you tried nothing new.
It gives a verdict only when each side has at least three full nights and the difference is bigger than your ordinary night-to-night spread. Until then it says it can't tell yet.

A report for your doctor or dentist
Save or share a PDF of your nights: time recorded, snoring time and its share of the night, the snore score night by night, the remedies you tried and how they compared, and any gaps. No audio is in it.
- The last 7, 14 or 30 nights, or all of themYou pick the nights. The report is written in the app's language: English, German, Spanish, French, Japanese or Korean.
- A record, not a diagnosisEvery page says so: “This is a record of snoring sounds, not a diagnosis.”
What's free, what's Pro
Free
- Your first full night (3 hours or more), recorded in full, with every snore to play back. Shorter test nights don't use it up.
- Playback of every night you recorded, at 1×, 1.5× and 2×.
- Marking episodes as not snoring, and notes on the timeline.
- A backup to a file you choose, and importing it again.
- Deleting every night, whenever you like.
Nightjar Pro PRO
- Recording every night after the first.
- The remedy comparison.
- Your trend, week by week.
- The report for your doctor (PDF).
Nightjar Pro is a weekly or yearly subscription through Google Play. The price, and any free trial, is shown on the purchase screen before you pay, and you can cancel any time in Google Play. You only see that screen after your first night is recorded.
Your nights stay on your phone
No account and no ads. Detection and scoring happen on the phone, and the recordings are never uploaded. Only the sounds that matter are kept as audio, snoring and anything that stands out from the room; the quiet stretches are not.
- A backup without an accountExport your nights to a file wherever you choose, with the recordings or as scores only for a small file, and import it on a new phone.
- Android cloud backup is offNightjar opts out of Android's automatic backup, so your recordings don't end up in your Google account either.
- What does leave the phoneAnonymous usage events, such as that a night was completed and how long it was, go to Firebase Analytics, and Google Play and RevenueCat handle the subscription. No audio and none of your notes are ever in them.
What Nightjar is not
Nightjar records snoring sounds. It can't diagnose anything. If you gasp or stop breathing in your sleep, or feel very tired by day, talk to a doctor.
- Not a medical device. It records and measures snoring sounds; it does not detect or diagnose sleep apnea or any other condition.
- Not a sleep tracker: no sleep stages, no smart alarm, no sleep sounds.
- It doesn't stop snoring. It shows you whether what you try makes a difference.
- One phone can't tell whose snoring it hears. If you both snore, it hears you both.
